Ever since 2002, the state of Texas has given citizens the opportunity to choose their own electricity provide (EP). It’s a great way to put a lot of competition on those big named companies who can easily manipulate the system and take advantage of your finances. Maybe you’re looking for better customer support, better renewable resource choices, or various other options your normal company doesn’t provide.
In the past, one company would handle all distribution and basically corner the market. They received all the benefits, didn’t have to worry about satisfying their customers, and just controlled it all. However, in Texas today, many consumers have the chance to choose who they want to be their provider. Best of all the Public Utility Commission still oversees everything. This way there won’t be several issues.
About seventy-five percent of the state actually has the ability to choose the power company that they want, instead of having no control over their bill, where their power comes from, or what kind of service they recieve. The rest of the state is unfortunately not subject to competition for a number of reasons. Electricity cooperatives and large cities, including San Antonio and Austin, are not open for competition. You can get in touch with your co-op or city utility to find out more.
It’s exciting to think what the future holds for the state of Texas, but in the mean time we must wait everything out. Deregulation revolves around power choice, and in our state wind power is a huge benefit. There are tons of wind farms being developed due to the constant pollutants in the air and water. It will even reduce the natural gas companies that use a non-renewable resource. If deregulation never came about, we wouldn’t have all these new innovations.
The main goal is to find something that fits your needs. This shouldn’t be too difficult considering you have options now. When you want to get started, it’s important to get all the information you can from the websites out there, and base your choice off your needs. Once you reach this point, it will be easy to notice the benefits from the advanced sites out there. In fact, you will be able to compare all the prices and do it in real time.
So if you’re looking to switch providers, you will be happy to know that the process is quite simple. All you have to do is the research, pick a company, have them accept your order, then just wait for all the information. Probably the best part is you don’t have to call up your current REP and let them know you’re leaving. This keeps away from the hassle of exiting questions, discount sales, and tons of overall frustration. When everything is complete, the meter reading will switch hands and you’ll receive a new bill from your new provider. Just keep in mind the old company will keep sending bills until you’ve paid them in full.
The power of choice is a wonderful thing, and this is all it takes to get started. If you’re wondering whether or not the new company will be reliable, they will. Everything happens in the same frequency, so don’t be afraid of change if you’re not happy with the current company. In the end this option allows you to choose the company, what type of rates, and how the electricity is actually produced. It just means you have more control of your utilities than ever before.
Take the time to find out if you have the option to change your power supplier – you could really benefit. It’s not hard to do, and your service can only get better. Companies now have an incentive to offer better pricing, cleaner energy, and better quality service. After all, you could always try your luck with someone else.
