Are you wondering what the best times to try to schedule a fly fishing expedition are? Well, when we talk about a fly fishing calendar, we are not quite referring to a printed calendar that you can hang on your wall. We are talking about focusing on and specifying the right times to fish and the right places at which to fish.

The main thing you need to look at when you are considering drawing up a fly fishing calendar is: when will the water be at the optimum temperature? That is, the temperature that is best for catching fish. The right time to go fishing will depend on the area that you are looking at for your fly fishing trip.

In some locations, like California, the fishing is very good all the year round. While in other locations, such as Washington, you will have to stay away from the water in the winter as the cold temperatures will stress the fish and they will not be as plenteous.

Generally speaking, the fly fishing calendar shows that the best fly fishing is in the spring and summer periods. Early fall will also find some places seeing good fishing as well. Almanacs can be useful to steer you towards the best fishing times and places as can constantly updating Internet web sites that are run by dedicated local fishermen.

Many locations will give weekly, and sometimes even daily fishing reports on their websites. They can tell you where the fish are biting and where the best places in the river are to cast your line. They generally keep these areas of their web sites up-to-date fairly regularly. So you can get excellent reports just by looking at what other anglers have to say about their fishing experiences.

Usually, fish like warmer water, although, there are other species like salmon and steelhead that thrive in colder water. However, in general, warm water will attract more fish. Nonetheless, if the water is too warm, the fish will be lethargic and will navigate to places where the water is cooler.

The fly fishing calendar employed most often by experienced anglers has been compiled over a lengthy period of time. They expend a considerable amount of effort to estimate where and when the best fishing will occur. Then they share it with others. That is one of the best things about fly fishing – the camaraderie and the sharing that can come about because of a mutual affection for the sport of fly fishing.

You can compile your own fly fishing calendar with a little time and effort. Just do your homework and keep copious notes. When you notice a trend, you will know that it is time to go fishing! Then you should be certain to help your fellow anglers by passing on the information via a local club or the Internet, if you are talented at it, because others will be trying to work out what you already know. You know that most fly fishermen would do the same for you, do you not?

Hybrid Electric Engines: Some Information

Have you ever wondered about hybrid cars? They certainly look stylish and modern, but what is it about them that makes them so different and so special? After all, most cars look the same these days, do they not? They are all designed by computer to be aerodynamic and aerodynamic is aerodynamic, so they all end up looking indistinguishable to anyone who is not an aficionado.

Well, the fact is that the distinction between a hybrid car and a normal car lies under the bonnet. There are various types of hybrid vehicles as well, but the most common kind has a hybrid electric engine. Therefore, you could say that what makes hybrid cars special from most other, ordinary cars is their engine.

Or engines really, because hybrid electric cars basically have two engines. One, the internal combustion engine, runs on gasoline, LPG or diesel and the other, the electric motor, runs off electricity stored in an array of powerful batteries. On the other hand, ordinary cars only have an internal combustion engine. It is a good idea to examine these two types of engine separately.

First of all the electric motor. Electrical energy is generated by several components on the car and stored in a large bank or array of heavy-duty batteries. The electricity is created by the turning of the internal combustion engine, just as with a standard car, when it is in use, but also by the wheels or / and the car’s braking system. Different models have different methods of creating this electricity, but they are all very hi-tech and very effective.

When the car’s internal computers determine that the car no longer needs the strength of the internal combustion engine, it will turn it off and switch to the electric motor instead. The circumstances where this might happen are, for instance, when you are driving slowly in inner-city traffic, when you are cruising at moderate speed on a flat road or when you are going down hill. This saves a significant amount of fuel, which is clearly a great saving to you.

However, there are occasions when you have to have more power than the batteries can supply you, for example, when accelerating hard, when overtaking or when climbing a hill. At times such as these, the electric motor will shut down and the combustion engine will take over and start supplying power to the accelerator and electricity to the batteries. When the requirement for extra power has ceased, the batteries will take over again.

These choices are all taken by the hybrid electric vehicle’s (HEV’s) on board computer system and you will not be aware of much other that a surge of power or a quietening of the propulsion system. This works very well in most scenarios, but some drivers of HEV’s would like to have a manual override for abnormal circumstances, such as an undulating terrain.

All in all, cars with hybrid electric engines work very well at reducing fuel bills but they are still too expensive to be much more than a gimmicky toy and a salve to the conscience for the rich.

Advertising To The Masses

If you were to create a self-cleaning fabric, the world may want to beat a path to your door to buy some from you, but first of all they will have to be aware that the fabric exists, that it is available for purchase, and they have to be aware of where your door is. This means advertising.

There are two classifications of advertising: institutional and product. Institutional advertising markets the name of your business in general and product advertising promotes a product or range of products or services. The type of publicity that a company requires, depends on the products or services that it allows.

Moreover, some kinds of advertising lend themselves better to institutional advertising rather than product advertising. For instance, a shop sign, a sign-written van or a promotional calendar are better suited to institutional advertising, while a newspaper or magazine advert would be better for advertising the latest special offer.

There are few facts and figures available that reveal the astonishing growth of the mass consumption society as well as those dealing with the expansion of the advertising industry. For instance, prior to the Second World War, US average annual expenditure on advertising per year had been about $2 billion for decades.

In 1950, as the post-war economy began to pick up , American businesses spent $5.7 billion to advertise its goods and services. By 1960, that figure had doubled to $12 billion. By 1970, American business was spending $20.

Between 1970 and 1990, as the children Baby Boomers became adults and began earning and spending, advertising expenditure went through the roof, so that by 1986, it had reached $100 billion.

That extraordinary rate of growth could not be sustained, but by 1999, total expenditure on all forms of advertising exceeded $215 billion . The last available figures are for 2007 and they stand at $280 billion.

In 1999, nearly 60% of all advertising dollars were spent on adverts in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and on television. By 2007, that figure had fallen to about 54% as the Internet started to have an effect on advertising trends. These trends are expected to continue as every firm is expected to have its own web site these days.

The nation’s largest advertisers are the manufacturers of cars, food, soft drinks, tobacco and beer and they filter most of their expenditure through about 13,000 advertising agencies., who usually make the ads and buy the space or air time from the media too.

These agencies have been transformed over the last decade by mergers. The most successful advertising agencies these days are huge international concerns. WPP, the largest advertising agency in the world, billed $37 billion in 2008 and had this to say about itself:

“Our total revenue in 2008 surpassed that of all our competitors, regaining the No.1 worldwide position for the third time”.

Hybrid Cars VS Plug-In Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars are on everyone’s minds these days. $20, $30, $40 or even $50 for a tank of petrol? Who really wants to pay that sort of money? But, frustrated, the gas customer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are being richly applauded for the small amount of fuel they need to operate, and they are flying off the forecourts of car dealerships each and everyday in ever increasing numbers.

However, what about a plug-in hybrid? Most drivers have heard that these cars are fantastic too. Then, someone might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrids are capable of running just on batteries, but they can run on gas also. These types of hybrid cars have some of the characteristics of hybrid vehicles. They are also very similar to all-electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles need to be charged externally by plugging them into an electrical power source. The combustion engine of plug-in hybrid vehicles is used only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if desired, but it is expected that these kinds of hybrid cars be plugged in daily.

Hybrid cars travel just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where fuel-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the highway, in cities, or wherever else a person needs to drive.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to be driven commuter-length distances, meaning between twenty and sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using fuel as well.

Hybrids help to minimize pollution, but they still pollute the air. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go where pollution is concerned. Since plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don’t have to emit waste fuel emissions. That means that plug-in hybrids don’t have to pollute the atmosphere.

Plug-in hybrids really do combat greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use virtually no oil, imported or not. Studies have shown that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases compared to gasoline cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is completely renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study showed.

There you have it – the main differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It could make a big difference, but you would be surprised at how little it actually matters at the moment, but that’s only because plug-in hybrids are not being marketed to consumers yet! But this article should make you enthusiastic about the fantastic plug-in hybrid car, which will be featuring soon on a dealership near you.

And it’s going to be a spectacular debut too – people already like current hybrid cars, but they haven’t seen anything until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe we should just be satisfied with what we already have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars come out onto the forecourts, something even better might be introduced onto the market.

Using Budget Lighting In Your Home

Lighting is the one, single most critical means of altering the mood of any room. Therefore, it stands to reason that if you enhance the lighting and appearance of your house, its value will also rise. Lighting improves any decor. However, you do not have to use expensive lighting, budget or discount light is just as good in most cases.

There are thousands of types of lighting, at least one of which will go well with the sort of decor that you have. Lighting is best kept understated. Up lighting, down lighting and back lighting are tremendous ways of lighting up objects in a room. The days of a single pendant lamp hanging from a rose in the centre of the ceiling are long gone so if you do have to have one, at least put a dimmer on it.

Using many lights in place of one powerful light does not have to be more expensive. Typically, the one powerful light was a 100 watt bulb, so you could have four 20 watt wall lights and still save 20% on electricity. Or you could use one 40 watt bulb in a standard floor lamp or table lamp for reading or working and save 60% on your lighting bill.

Apart from the savings, a wrought iron floor or table lamp is far more beautiful that a pendant light. How about candelabra? You could use candelabra to startling effect, whether you use candles in them or small light bulbs.

Candles have made a big return too. Many people use candles for subsidiary or even back-up lighting and candelabra are one of the hottest latest trends. Interior designers are snapping them up antique shops and painting them bright colours. You can see them in the photographs of the houses of many celebrities. A lot of people use candelabra in conjunction with aromatherapy too.

Another aspect of lighting is security. A well-lit house is less likely to be burgled than a dark house. Outside lighting can also play a major role in security precautions. External lighting that is controlled by movement or heating sensors to switch them on are the best means of discouraging burglars.

External lighting is the best deterrent, but it can also be beautiful. Back or up lighting on a water fall, a pond or a beautiful arrangement of plants or bushes is amazing in the dark. Spotlights have a role to play in lighting up garden plants as well.

If you would like to give your fish free, organic meat to eat, put a floodlight or even an ultraviolet light at the pond side. If you switch it on for a few hours after dusk, hundreds of flies, moths and mosquitoes will be drawn to it and fall into the water, where your fish will be waiting for them.

You can have a lot of fun with lighting and the possibilities are infinite. Both indoor and outdoor lighting can enhance the beauty of your home and garden, but they also have functional uses: they enable you to see what you are doing and what other people are doing, which is why they are a good deterrent. Good lighting also makes anyone living alone feel safer.

Hybrid Car Myths

If you are thinking about purchasing a hybrid vehicle, you may be listening to quite a bit of “talk”. Some people think the hybrid car is the best thing since sliced bread. Other people say it will just pass. Yet other people again say they think they can save a packet, but you’re not sure it’s really worth it. What is the truth, and how do you separate myth from fact with all of the talk that is being said to you? Below, you can read and consider the usual hybrid vehicle myths.

Hybrid cars are just the same as electric cars: This is untrue because hybrid vehicles are fuel-powered most of the time. But they have what are called ‘battery assists’. The assist is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery pack that is rechargeable.

You are guaranteed to save money with a hybrid car: If you are doing city driving, you may save fuel and you may not. The same goes for highway driving. There are just too many different factors involved. It has been said that if everyone bought hybrid cars, the fuel consumption would drop by just 10%. That’s not a very big difference, is it?

A hybrid cars battery can run out: A hybrid car battery should not run flat when you are actually driving it. The engine of a hybrid car does not idle when stopped (at a red light for instance). What does it do instead then? It recharges its battery. So there’s no need to worry about a hybrid car stopping on that score.

The hybrid car’s rechargeable battery lasts only for 2 years: A hybrid car certainly would not be worth buying if this was true. A hybrid vehicle’s rechargeable batteries usually come with an eight-year guaranty.

If I run out of gas, I can continue driving on the hybrid car battery: Keep in mind, a hybrid car’s battery is an assist. That means that hybrid car’s still run on fuel. After you run out of gas, the battery could keep the car running for a short while. However, the car will cease running pretty soon.

Hybrid vehicles will soon put conventional car dealers out of business: This probably won’t happen anytime soon. The reason for the delay has to do with the how much a hybrid cars cost. Most people simply can’t afford one. Furthermore, people just aren’t too sure whether they will really save money by buying a hybrid car. Therefore, they are loathe to join the rush of people who want to own a hybrid car.

Hybrid cars will only save you about 88USD per annum: I did hear something on the news the other day, but it may not be true. If there’s something you really want and there’s a lot of gossip surrounding it, you simply have got to start digging around and do some research yourself. There are many different types of hybrid car, and many different manufacturers make them. This means that there may be much more involved than we have discussed here. A hybrid car may help you, and it may not, but the final decision is up to you.

So, don’t worry too much about what people say. Do your own research and make up your own mind. Use the Internet to get information. The manufacturer’s advertising is also useful, if you stick to reading the facts and gloss over the hype. Check that what the literature claims is also in the guarantee.

Your Lighting Options When Remodelling Your Kitchen

Every year millions of people all over the world take on a kitchen remodel. Sometimes this remodelling is partial, but usually it is a total refit. When you are thinking about remodelling your kitchen, there are two main points that you should keep in mind. The first is functionality, after all you have to be able to prepare food there and the second is lighting.

Lighting is important for several reasons, but it does depend on what you use your kitchen for. You will need good lighting for cooking at all times of the day; you might need softer lighting for eating and you may fancy soft down lighting just so that you can find a biscuit at night. This can be achieved with a dimmer, but that would be to miss out on an opportunity of creating a good lighting system.

One of the problems is that there is so much choice when it comes to choosing light fixtures and fittings, light bulbs and accessories. You probably already have an idea of what you want having seen kitchens in your friends’ houses and in adverts. However, despite the fact that you may have pre-established ideas, it is worth getting hold of a couple of home improvement magazines and manufacturers’ brochures.

The best place to begin is the ceiling. If you eat or talk in the kitchen, you will probably want a suspended light above the table concerned. If you have a fairly large kitchen, you might want to have spotlights on the ceiling pointing to the main areas where you prepare food.

Down lights fixed above the work counter are very useful and very atmospheric. They are especially helpful above areas that you use often for snacks or drinks in the evenings – it saves switching the main light on.

If you live in a hot locale and you want a fan, you could get a ceiling fan that has built-in lighting. Often these fans have four lights and there is a pull-cord control in order to select no lights, two lights or four lights. This is independent of the fan’s speed control.

A variation on this theme is a chandelier, but obviously you will require a fairly high ceiling to accommodate it. Wall lighting is another popular alternative. If you throw intimate dinner parties in the kitchen, wall sconces are a means of creating a romantic and nostalgic atmosphere. These sconces can hold electric lights or just candles, which are very effective at creating an atmosphere.

It is better if you incorporate planning your kitchen’s lighting into the design procedure as soon as possible. It actually is that important to get it right. If you do not live alone, organize a brain-storming session with the people who share your house to see if they have other suggestions about how the kitchen should be used.

Some people might want to make it a more traditional area, where people sit and talk and eat together; others may be quite happy to eat in front of the TV or in their bedrooms. All of these considerations can affect the lighting you will need in your kitchen.

Bedroom Design And Lighting Ideas

Lighting has a massive effect on ambiance. In fact, it has the greatest effect on mood. If the lighting is not right nothing else you do will salvage your design, so when it comes to redecorating your bedroom, you should spend some time thinking carefully about what you want to accomplish. Do you want a sexy boudoir or do you want a functional home office/bedroom?

It matters a lot whether you are married or single. Many married people do not want a sexy bedroom, especially if they have children, whereas single people, especially women, would rather a sexy boudoir. Single men are inclined to go for a functional bedroom with a computer desk in the corner.

There are three ways you can go about designing your bedroom: You could use pen and paper; you could use software or you could plan it in your head. Whichever way you decide to go, you will need to think about style and lighting. Let’s say that you will be using pen and paper to sketch out your design, because that is what most people would do.

Graph paper is the easiest to use exactly. Pick the largest scale that will allow your longest wall to fit on the page. So, if your sheet of paper is 12×7 inches and your room is 5×3 yards, then your scale would be 2 inches to 1 yard or 2:36, which is 1:18. Draw in the walls of your bedroom.

Next draw in immovable objects like windows and doors and then electrical points and light fittings. The rest is yours to do with what you like. At this point, you may want to make a dozen photocopies of your sheet of graph paper, so that you can outline different ideas.

Draw in where you want large furniture to go – things like the bed, wardrobes and the dressing table. Now draw in where you want extra electrical sockets to go. Next job is to remove everything from the room, lift the carpets and strip the wallpaper. Now what colours do you want?

Red or pink is sexy, blue or green is more neutral. Black is weird. Dark grey would be depressing, but a very light grey might be all right. Go down to the paint shop and try to get some sampler tins so that you can paint small patches on the walls. Or borrow a wallpaper catalogue to take home.

Put in the extra sockets before you begin decorating. The woodwork is normally painted white or off white; cream or rose white are nice warm colours; apple white is a little cooler. After painting and decorating move your carpets and furniture back in along with any new furniture you have bought.

Install your new lighting. Table lamps, wall sconces and floor lamps can be a lot more effective than ceiling lights. They also allow you to highlight particular areas of your new bedroom. Table lamps allow one person to sleep while the other reads. A desk light will allow one to work and the other to sleep and a floor lamp will provide general lighting so that you do not trip over if you have to get up.

Is A Solar Electricity System Right For You?

Until approximately a hundred years ago in the West, people only had recourse to renewable energy for heat and light for their homes. They burnt wood and sometimes coal or peat (OK, fossil fuels) and got up when the sun came up and went to bed with the sun too. In, fact a large part of the world’s population still lives like that.

Things altered with mechanized industry and night shifts. Electricity providers sold the populace on being able to do more instead of just sleeping when it became dark, and the Western population got hooked on buying huge amounts of energy, mostly electricity and engine fuel, which was usually made from from oil and coal.

This idea soon travelled around the world and with rising prosperity came emulation and other countries wanted the same. Now we are in the sad situation where we have to confess that we rode the fossil fuel gravy train to its last stop without thinking about what we would use when fossil fuels ran out.

This is where the typical citizen comes in. You have to think about how you want to draw energy in the future. Do you want to be powered by keeping sucking unrenewable resources out of the Earth, or do you want to have as little to do with it as you can? Would you prefer to have everything you have now, but know that the resources that are powering your lifestyle are renewable?

If, like millions of others around the world, you would rather say ‘No!’ to traditional power production methods, then you have to take a stand. But not only in words, you really have to do some something about it physically.

This will mean investing a lot of money up front, which might not be a problem for you or you may even think that taking a stand is worth looking for a bank loan. These are admirable sentiments, but I would like to propose that there is another way to self-sufficiency.

You could make your own!

Why not? The technology has been around for decades and is pretty straightforward. Most moderately capable teenagers can assemble a bank of photovoltaic cells into a solar panel and then plug that into your home’s electrical system. And if a teenager can manage it, so can you. All you (and the teenager) will need is a solar panel kit and a schematical diagram. A plan in other words.

A solar panel kit can be bought locally from a DIY shop or from the Internet. A typical solar panel will take a few hours to put together and will produce 100 watts of electrical energy. The electricity produced from these panels is then passed through an inverter that changes the current from DC to AC, making it utilizable by household appliances and the utility grid.

Do yourself and the planet a good turn, get off the grid and start saving money and the planet’s resources, you will be surprised how easy it is once you get going. And do not forget, you can do it in stages of, say, one 100 watt panel a month until you hit self-sufficiency. It is not a question of ‘All or Nothing’.

Window Shutters For Security And Lighting Options

When you want to add style to your house, one way of doing this and adding security at the same time, is by having window shutters fixed to the exterior of your house. Exterior window shutters add a traditional, Mediterranean look to a property. These days, most houses have glass windows, but before that, people used shutters to regulate the light levels, prevent insects and the cold from entering and for protection.

Exterior window shutters are available in many different shapes and made from various materials, although the most common ones are wooden and oblong. The quality of the materials used will determine how long your shutters will last, because, as with all exterior goods, they will be exposed to all types of extreme weather conditions.

Plastic, vinyl, metal and wooden shutters are available at many home improvement centres. Although they look fantastic, shutters also have practical uses. They can prevent glaring noon sunlight from over heating your home as well as offering protection.

Cedar wood is a good choice, as are most other hard woods. Hardwoods are more resistant to rain and sunlight and, so long as they are painted, stained or oiled regularly – at least once a year – then your shutters will give you ten or more years of effective service.

Most varieties of hardwood are very resistant to attack from insects too. This is because a lot of them contain oils that are repugnant or even toxic to insects. However, if you are unsure about the quality of the timber that your shutters are made from, you can paint them.

Painting, staining or oiling is far easier if you carry it out before you hang the shutters. If you want to use oil to protect your new wooden shutters, first stain them to the colour that you want them to be with a stain without varnish. When you have accomplished the desired shade and it has dried, pour oil linseed oil onto a cloth and rub it into the wood in circular motions. The more coats you give it the better, but it may not accept more that two or three coats.

If you choose to varnish your shutters, either stain them to the colour you require as above and then seal them with clear yacht varnish or use a stained yacht varnish without the stain. Whichever way you go, thin the first coat of varnish down until it is almost watery. Paint it on and leave to dry. Rub it down with medium coarse sandpaper and then coat it again with pure varnish. Wait for it to dry and sand it down again, but with fine sandpaper. Add at least one more coat, but it is a matter of the more the better.

If you want to paint them, apply a primer or some thinned down undercoat. Wait for it to dry and sand it lightly with fine sandpaper. Next, put on a coat of undercoat that is appropriate for the finishing colour. For example, grey is good for black, brown and even green or red. Sand it down when it is dry with fine paper. Finally, gloss your shutters with the final colour.

In conclusion, hang the shutters on apposite hinges using brass screws. Next time, you paint or varnish your shutters paint over the screw heads, although brass never looks out of place anyway.
